The Fashion Designers’ Union has described the popularity of the fashion industry in South Korea as a “huge opportunity” for women and women of colour.
The union’s president, Jang-Seon Kyung, said that the industry “has created an unprecedented opportunity” that could bring the country “great opportunities for women of all ages”.
“The trend for women’s fashion is very strong, it’s not a fan, it is a huge opportunity,” Mr Kyung said.

The trade is particularly popular in Seoul, which has the highest rate of female fashion designers in the world at 20 per cent.
“What the fashion designers’ union is saying is that we are not the only ones who have an opportunity,” Ms Kyung told BBC News.
“But we need to look at what’s happening in other countries as well.”
Mr Kyuh said that “in the future” he wanted the “biggest brands to open up their stores to women and to women with different styles and preferences”.
The fashion designers union has also spoken out about a lack of representation in the industry, with one member stating that he was “furious” when he heard that a designer was “not on the list”.
“This is not a good situation, and it’s a problem that we all need to solve,” Mr Jang said.
The fashion union has launched a petition calling on the government to create a diversity advisory council to “ensure the industry is not dominated by white men”.
“If the industry wants to continue to grow, it needs to hire more people of colour, and more women of diverse backgrounds,” Mr Jae said.
Mr Kyun said that as an industry, “we are the biggest and we need more people who are diverse”.

Ms Kyuh, who is also the president of the Women’s Designers Federation of South Korea, said there was an opportunity to “create a new way of doing business for women”.
“I think that there is a lot of room for innovation and new products, and we should create an industry that has a new model for the future,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
“We can’t create a model for everything, but the future should look very different from the past.”

Ms Kyong said that if a woman in the Fashion Design Federation of Korea wanted to make a fashion label, “she could do so easily”.
